My role is that of an oral health care educator and clinician. I work with the dentists to improve oral health and help combat periodontal (gum) disease. I assess and evaluate the periodontal tissue and provide preventative advice and care (including scaling and polishing of teeth) as well as treatment of early periodontal disease.

I have many years' experience in the dental profession. I first worked as a senior dental assistant in Christchurch for five years prior to studying as a dental hygienist.

My professional development and continuing education is ongoing and I regularly attend conferences, seminars and courses to keep up to date with the latest advances in dental hygiene.

Megan Scott

Dental Hygienist

I became part of the Duxton Dental team in October 2008. My role along with my fellow hygienists is Oral Health Educator and Clinician. My position involves patient education, evaluation of oral health and the treatment of periodontal disease.
 
On leaving school I trained for two years as a Dental Therapist in Wellington and worked for four years in Otago schools. In 1994 I went to the UK on my OE where I decided to change my career path slightly and trained as Dental Hygienist at Leeds Dental Institute in 1996. After four years of valuable work experience in Dental Practices in London from the NHS to the West End and various trips around Europe, Asia and Africa, I returned to New Zealand.

Since settling in Christchurch in 2000 I have worked in General Private Practice and Specialist Periodontal Practice before joining the team at Duxton Dental.

Diploma of Dental Hygiene -1996
Professional Development and Continuing Education are ongoing and I regularly attend Conferences, Seminars, Prime Practice, First Aid and CPR courses.
