Did you know that dentists perform more invasive facial procedures than any other healthcare specialist? Our dental clinics in Christchurch are home to Duxton Dental’s team of cosmetically focused dentists. They’ve had numerous years of extensive dentistry training and are highly qualified in the anatomy and dynamics of the face (from the chin up to the forehead) from cosmetic dentistry through to complex orthodontic braces.
Our team are qualified dento-facial practitioners registered and regulated by the Australasian Academy of Dento-Facial Aesthetics (AADFA). This confirms Duxton’s high standards of ethical conduct, clinical excellence, and responsible patient care.
Although Botox is not considered a risky procedure, complications can occur; however, our team has vast experience in the medical elements of dentistry, so you are in safe hands. If you take only one thing away today from this article, please only ever go to a qualified and regulated Botox practitioner.
Botox is an injectable drug made from Botulinum toxin. It’s a toxin from the same family that causes botulism (life-threatening food poisoning) and a very good reason why:
a) Botox should only ever be injected in small highly targeted doses.
b) You should only visit a medically qualified practitioner for applications.
When you book in for an appointment and talk to the dentist, you will hear the word Dysport used interchangeably with the word Botox. Dysport is a brand of Botulinum toxin championed by Duxton Dental. It has a lower diffusion rate than Botox which means fewer injections to achieve the same results!
Botulinum toxin works by blocking the signals from the nerves to the muscles. It only works on the nerves connected to the motor (movement) neurons but it doesn’t affect the sensory neurons so you can still feel touch, pain and temperature.
The targeted muscles are prevented from contracting which is why it is famously used to improve wrinkles and fine lines, but it has also been used medically since the 1960s for a host of treatments including:
Botox continues to block the nerve signals for between 3 and 4 months, after this period a new dose is needed to prevent symptoms or wrinkles returning.
At Duxton Dental we treat our patients holistically and as individuals, promoting healthy living, confidence, and wellbeing in the dental services we provide. We apply this ethos to our Botox treatments – natural looking Botox to make you feel as good as you look. To book a free, no-obligation consultation get in touch today.
